Mozart: Requiem, 12th Mass & Horn Concerto in Eb
St. Mary's Church, Sandbach was the venue for a "triumphant" evening of musical entertainment staged by Sandbach Voices on Saturday 21st March with conductor Martin Cook.
The choir and orchestra treated a full church to the sounds of Mozart's Twelfth Mass and Requiem with Mozart's Horn Concerto played to great applause by Timothy Page.
Comments on the evening’s entertainment ranged from fantastic to magnificent, a fitting applause for the choristers and soloists who admitted that it was a challenge to sing. It was indeed a fitting tribute to Conductor and Musical Director Martin Cook, who is with great regret, preparing to take leave the choir to study for a doctorate in conducting in America.
Sandbach Voices thank Martin for all his hard work in encouraging the choir to produce such a high standard of work and musicality over the last ten years. They wish him good luck and success in his new life and project overseas. Martin will conduct two more works with the choir before he departs. The Pirates of Penzance on the 16 May in Sandbach Town Hall and the choir at the inauguration of Mrs. Elsie Alcock as chairwoman of Sandbach Town Council on 7 June in St. Mary's Church, Sandbach.
Martin's sense of commitment and discipline to choral music, plus the panache and glamour which he lends to his productions make him a hard act to follow. The choir are now looking to recruit a person with the appropriate high skills who will take up the baton where he has left off, and will continue to help the choir maintain the high standards of performance it is now achieving.
Sandbach Voices always welcome new singers, men or women. There is no audition, all you need is a love of music. Rehearsals are every Tuesday evening at 7:30pm in the Hancock Hall at the rear of Wheelock Methodist Church.
