Sandbach Voices rounded off their 60th anniversary celebrations by staging a concert at The Town Hall with a difference.
With their very own choir members taking on many of the solo roles, Sandbach Voices opted to perform ‘THE MIKADO’ – a popular Gilbert and Sullivan production.
It proved to be an immensely popular choice with local people turning up in their droves and queuing down the stairs, hoping to purchase tickets on the door.
Sandbach voices chairman Pat Hodder said ‘We have always had a relaxed policy of purchasing tickets on the door, but we will have to encourage people to buy their tickets in advance in future, especially if we do another Gilbert and Sullivan production next May. It breaks our hearts that we had to turn people away on Saturday because we had sold out”.
Those that were lucky enough to get in were treated to a dazzling and humorous performance. One choir member said “You forget that Gilbert and Sullivan were probably the equivalent of Andrew Lloyd Webber in their day and many in the audience were mouthing along to lyrics and obviously enjoying every minute of it”
Sandbach Voices always welcome new singers, men or women. There is no audition, all you need is a love of music. Rehearsals are every Tuesday evening at 7:30pm in the Hancock Hall at the rear of Wheelock Methodist Church.
