Martin Cook's Biography

Martin Cook Martin Cook has a wealth of choral experience. He is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, where he studied Piano and Piano accompaniment. Later he went on to study Choral Conducting, Voice and Piano at Boston University, USA. Martin spent four years working in Newfoundland as a Music Specialist and it was there that he was first noticed as a Choral Conductor. Since returning to Britain he has been Head of Music in several secondary schools and has traveled abroad extensively with his school choirs.

After 12 years as Head of Music at Sandbach High School, Martin decided to work as a freelance choral conductor and music consultant, and worked on two choral projects with primary schools in the Borough of Slough. He was, for twelve years conductor of the Chester Music Society Junior Choir, who, under his direction, achieved national and international acclaim. They were twice semi-finalists in the Sainsbury's choir of the year competition and also won silver medals in Montreux and at Riva del Garda.

Martin is currently Director of Music at ‘The Liverpool Blue Coat School’ where there is a very successful choir. The choir goes on tour regularly. In 2003 they went to Venice, in 2005 and this year they went to the Cantabria region of Spain. They have sung mass and given concerts in St Mark’s Basilica, in Venice, The Votivkirke in Vienna, St Nicholas’ in Prague and in the Cathedrals of St Sebastian and Santander.
